I provide a number of individualized and family psychological services and I specialize in several areas. A large part of my practice is dedicated to working with school age children and adolescents. I also specialize in the treatment of depression, anxiety, existential crisis, and childhood trauma in my work with adults.
I believe we live in a world that is more complicated than ever before, and that sometimes, being a human isn’t always easy. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, over 25 percent of adults in the United States experience some form of depression, anxiety, or another mental ailment in any given year. There are other challenges that modern life can unexpectedly throw our way, such as dealing with adverse situations in the workplace, losing a job, or relationship troubles at home. Drug and alcohol abuse may also become problematic for some.
And these challenges are not limited to adults. According to the latest published research, around 12 percent of youth ages 12 to 17 have experienced an episode of major depression at least once in the past year. Additional difficulties with school, social media use, bullying, pressures to conform, suicidal thoughts, and drug and alcohol use may also be present. Most psychological ailments begin in the late-teens and early 20s. If these issues are addressed early enough, or if children and teens are provided with the therapeutic tools they need to help deal with these challenges, this will have a major positive impact on their future adult life.
